eSign eMandate with Aadhaar Virtual ID
The Aadhaar eKYC and eSign systems are adding Virtual IDs. From 1st August 2018, NACH Debit eSign eMandates can be authorised via Virtual ID or Aadhaar number.
UIDAI has implemented a new Virtual ID mechanism for authentication and eKYC. CCA has implemented this change in eSign v2.1.
Aadhaar Virtual ID is a temporary revocable 16-digit random number mapped to an Aadhaar number. It allows residents to authenticate themselves without revealing their Aadhaar number.
In biometric mode, Virtual ID or Aadhaar number may be used. In OTP mode, Virtual ID or Aadhaar number may be used until 31st December 2018, following which only Virtual ID will be permitted (Aadhaar number will not be permitted).
eSign eMandates are adjusted as follows: In OTP mode, the customer enters their Aadhaar number or Virtual ID directly on the eSign gateway page. In biometric authentication, there is no change.
Customers wishing to use Virtual ID need to generate a Virtual ID by visiting the UIDAI website here, using the UIDAI mAadhaar Android mobile app (Virtual ID feature is rolling out soon) or by visiting an Aadhaar enrollment centre.
LotusPay merchants need not take any action other than to guide customers how to generate Virtual ID. You can direct your customers to our support article here.
NPCI has advised destination banks to adjust their validation tools to accommodate this change. It is expected that by the end of July 2018, all destination banks will have made this adjustment.
